We're so excited to share a fun and ambitious project that we've been working on for the last month! When the folks at Sweetgreen (thanks, Stephanie!) reached out to us I couldn't believe it. Their team is planning to open its first Austin location (woot woot)! And in true Sweetgreen fashion, they're interested in featuring local artists, businesses, and partners—including yours truly and Chantal Strasburger Ceramics!

A little about Sweetgreen:

"We’re Sweetgreen — our mission is to build healthier communities by connecting people to real food. For us, that means sourcing from farmers and producers we know and trust, and cooking from scratch. By optimizing data, tech, and a sustainable supply chain, we're redefining the way we think about fast food."

What's really cool and unique is that they want guests in each of the 100+ locations to feel like it's "their Sweetgreen". They do this by being intentional on the spaces they choose—honoring their original characteristics—and by adding artwork, decor, and more from artists and partners in the local community.

The Start of a Beautiful Friendship:

That's where we come into play. Our love for thoughtfully handcrafted wares, partnering with local artists, and our desire to support simple sustainable low-impact products perfectly aligns with the values of Sweetgreen so they asked us to help them navigate the local artist community.

For their opening week, early Austin customers will be delightfully surprised with various gifts from local businesses. On August 14th, the gift is going to be coffee themed. We were asked to help coordinate the production of 100+ handcrafted mugs for the event!

For this very special project, I reached out to a friend of the brand—Chantal of Chantal Strasburger Ceramics. Chantal is an Austin-based ceramicist who creates beautiful small-batch ceramics in her home-based studio.

But that's not all! She also does embroidery work, which you can check out here. Her work includes sculptural pieces and functional wares perfect for every day (check out my dreamy mug photo here).

I love her subtle statement aesthetic and calming neutral color palettes. Needless to say, I thought she'd be perfect for the job. I was so happy when she agreed to join in on this adventurous project that I may have done a little dance!

With just about 4 weeks to complete the task, Chantal set out to handcraft 125 mugs that will feature a green-striped color scheme—which is inspired by Sweetgreen's branding.
