What’s In Our Bags for National Picnic Month

Hey everyone, Sean here. (It's been a while, hasn't it?)

So, July is National Picnic Month—which is definitely a thing I didn’t know existed until, like, this week. But now that I do, I’m kinda into it. Picnics are simple, a little nostalgic, and a good excuse to slow down without feeling like you’re just...lying on the couch thinking about emails. You’re lying on the ground, outside. Totally different vibe.

Anyway, I thought it’d be fun to put together a little “What’s in Our Bag” list for the perfect New Origin-style picnic. These are just some of the things Sierra and I would actually bring with us, all of which you can grab from the shop.

Let’s dig in.

A Tote That’s as Strong as It Is Cute

I don’t care how organized you think you are—you’re going to throw, like, 14 random things in your bag on the way out the door. That’s why we love the Baggu reusable bags. They’re big, durable, and come in various colors and patterns.

Something Comfy to Sit On

Look, a picnic without a blanket is just eating food in some grass. That's for squirrels. That's not the look we're going for here. We recommend one of our handmade throws or ethically-made throws—they’re ethically made, super soft, and lowkey fancy in a way that still says “I’m chill.” Plus, they double as a wrap when that random breeze hits.

Sip & Snack, But Make It Sustainable

Hydration: important. Snacks: mandatory. We keep it simple—sparkling water, fruit, and maybe a homemade sandwich if we’re feeling ambitious. We have plenty of sustainable cups to choose from. From water bottles to silicone/glass wine glasses. I love these double-sided glasses because they keep your drinks cold without making your hands wet with precipitation. Plus, they look way cooler than plastic or styrofoam cups.

Set the Mood (Yes, Even Outside)

Sierra packs a little aromatherapy roll-on in her bag, which comes in handy when the park vibes shift from calm to chaos. A little grounding scent goes a long way. You can always pack dried lavender or scent reeds if the weather is good for it.

A Journal for Your “Main Character” Moment

This might sound cheesy, but hear me out: bringing a notebook to your picnic feels like something the wisest version of you would do. It’s quiet. It’s thoughtful. And you never know when inspiration (or random overthinking) will strike. We’ve got some great ones for you to try.

Bonus Things That You Shouldn't Forget

Head wrap, bandana, or scrunchie – A sun wrap for your hair, especially if it’s humid.

Statement earrings – Because you should look good, even when leisurely lying in the park.

Sunglasses – An essential (even for kids).

Wrap-Up: Picnics Are the New Self-Care

I’m not saying a picnic will fix your entire life. But for an hour or two, it might trick you into remembering that you’re a human being and not just a walking to-do list.

If you build your own picnic kit, tag us @NewOriginShop—we’d love to see what you’re packing and where you end up.

Now go outside. Bring snacks. Wear sunscreen. Romanticize your life a little.
